Bonaire is a Caribbean island of the Antilles, located in the Leeward Antilles (the southern part of the Lesser Antilles along the northern coats of South America) in the Caribbean Sea.
It is also the main island of the municipality with the same name (which also includes the smaller island of Klein Bonaire); this municipality, along with Saba and Sint Eustatius with which it forms the Caribbean Netherlands, is a formal part (with a special status) of the state of the Netherlands, within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
